Click here to Print Pattern Quilt size 38" x 58" Created by Joy-Lynn Cole © Yardage Requirements: 1 panel 1/3 yard for adjusting inner border 6 fat quarters for pieced border Additional fat quarters will give you a scrappier look If you are planning a larger quilt with additional borders (patterns attached) you will need approximately 8 fat quarters for the second border and approximately 8 fat quarters for the third border. The first border is an adjusting border. After straightening the center panel, cut border strips so the quilt will measure 26 1/2 x 46 1/2". Simply measure your squared up center panel, subtract your measurements from 26 1/2 x 46 1/2", divide by 2 and add 1/2" to each measurement. The answer will give you your required strip measurements for the adjusting border, including your seam allowance. Please see the example. After adding your adjusting border to your panel, measure the length and width, which should measure 26 1/2 x 46 1/2". You are now ready to add the second border. Cutting directions for the strip pieced border Cut strips from 1 1/2" up to 4 1/2". Sew 3 or 4 together alternating widths. Cut in 6 1/2" segments and piece the segments together to approximate length of your borders. Cut 2 pieces 6 1/2 x 38 1/2 for the top and bottom. Cut 2 pieces at 6 1/2 x 46 1/2" for the sides. Sew the sides on before you sew on the top and bottom.
